  16. The protocol described in this document is designed to provide access
  17. to the Directory while not incurring the resource requirements of the
  18. Directory Access Protocol (DAP). This protocol is specifically
  19. targeted at simple management applications and browser applications
  20. that provide simple read/write interactive access to the Directory,
  21. and is intended to be a complement to the DAP itself.  This RFC is the
  22. product of the OSI Directory Services Working Group of the IETF.
  23.  
  24. This is now a Proposed Standard Protocol.
  25.  
  26. This RFC specifies an IAB standards track protocol for the Internet
  27. community, and requests discussion and suggestions for improvements.
  28. Please refer to the current edition of the "IAB Official Protocol
  29. Standards" for the standardization state and status of this protocol.
